As Clark County’s leader in environmental education, we feel it is important to not only teach others about the value and wonder of our natural resources, but also model this behavior ourselves. Some efforts we’ve taken to make our site and business practices more sustainable include:

• Self-hauling non-curbside recyclable items to local recycling outlets.
• Maintaining active compost piles for staff composting and public demonstration.
• Repurposing recyclable items for event activities and crafts.
• Repurposing wood pallets from fish hatchery operations to make compost bins.
• Constructing a Cordwood Classroom with recycled materials, sustainably sourced wood, and LED lighting.
• Using a micro-hydro generator to power and heat our Cordwood Classroom.
• Maintaining a green roof on the Cordwood Classroom
• Maintaining two native plant gardens, one rain garden, and four rain barrels.
• Equipping each building onsite with its own homemade green cleaning kit.
• Eliminating paper towels from the bathroom in our administrative office.
• Installing a pervious surface in our public parking lot.
